What is Sex Therapy?

Sex Therapy addresses the improvement of sexual function, and the treatment of sexual dysfunctions for individual and relational issues. Sexual function and sexuality include your identity, such as your gender roles and scripts. Sexual problems are often known as sexual dysfunctions. The term “dysfunction” can sound judgmental and scary, but know that it can be helpful in identifying the right treatment and course of action for the concerns you are experiencing. Dysfunctions can include concerns around desire, arousal, pain, and orgasm.

Who is Sex Therapy for?

Sex Therapy is for individuals or relationships seeking to address healthy sexual functioning and/or sexuality, not limited to sexual identity, gender roles, dysfunctions, sexual preferences, alternative relationships, intimacy, and enhancing overall sex life.

It can be difficult or uncomfortable speaking about topics of sexuality or sexual dysfunction. It is important that you know you are not alone! As a Sex Positive therapist, I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment to share any concerns causing you distress, and help you better understand your sexual preferences, and sexual sense of self.

How can Sex Therapy help?

Aging, fatigue, depression, anxiety, stress, hormones, medication, illnesses, diet, and sexual trauma can be factors contributing to sexual dysfunction. Problems can happen suddenly, or grow slowly over time. Whether you’re an individual or in a relationship, sex therapy can help identify these issues to help you find your sexual identity, work through dysfunctions, and help you move towards enjoyment and fulfilling sexual experiences.
